Club Meeting 20.3.17 with Aly Harrold

Chaucer’s last meeting of March was a high watermark for the year. The evening was chaired by Suzanne who warmed the room up with a topic of holidays we are looking forward to which proved entertaining. Following this, our guest Aly Harold delivered a masterclass in “use of voice”. The workshop was hugely informative, entertaining and interactive and was invaluable to novices and seasoned pros alike. We were doing breathing exercises, superwoman poses, burbling… See Aly’s website for links to her u-tube videos demonstrating these exercises and lots of other useful information for speakers. Many thanks to Aly for her generosity in travelling to Chaucer and sharing her expertise.

After the break topics was chaired Barry who asked us to relate the history or future of items as diverse as ice-cream and ladders. The challenges provided plenty of scope for deploying the voice techniques learnt earlier. A special mention for Bryan who used his topic of the history of the zebra to demonstrate vibrant vocal variety in contrast to his usual quiet delivery. Peter had us laughing by starting his response with 30 silent secs of Aly’s warm up exercises and then describing a horror version of the tooth fairy.
An educational, entertaining and funny evening was rounded off by Adrian’s topics evaluation and a general evaluation by Carol. The next meeting on 3rd April is chaired by Josephine so please give her your support and contribution for her fist time in the chair.
We look forward to welcoming you to our meeting on 3rd April.
