Club Meeting 9th May 2016

Adrian chaired a vibrant meeting despite a record number of apologies and we welcomed two guests who gave entertaining impromptu speeches on the theme of; ‘When I was three, I wanted to be…’ Their topics were ‘a spy’ and a ‘fashion model’ given by our first-time topics chair, Josephine.  There was a slight misunderstanding when Julian thought he had wanted to be a parrot not a pirate.

Julian rehearsed his showcase speech on making music and we all look forward to the polished version winning his certificate of achievement. Carol, Bryan, Julie and Paul showcased the art of evaluation.

The remainder of the evening focused on impromptu speaking. Julie gave an education session on frameworks for responding to topics which will be available as a download from the resources page before the next meeting. Stew, the ASC national topics champion 2016 (cue applause) gave a demonstration of his skills by answering 3 topics in immediate succession; Boaty McBoatface, Forever Young and Bat Out of Hell. And gave the funniest last line ever spoken at Chaucer…
