Joint meeting of Kent ASC Clubs

A vibrant, fun and educational meeting was packed with guests from West Kent and Thanet speakers clubs. Will as chair set a confident high energy tone for the evening. Julian and Adrian gave entertaining showpiece speeches entitled ‘The Joy of Music’ and ‘Going Rhino.’ Ray shared his wisdom on using the lectern – the favourite prop of Chaucer speakers.

Carol chaired a very funny impromptu speaking session on the theme of bionic parts – x-ray yes / an extra hand / an invincible liver… The responses were spirited, embracing ethics, soldering and the auction of a pig.

We were treated to encouraging, analytical and incisive evaluations in a diverse range of styles by Sue, Doug, Aly and Trevor. The speakers were offered clear advice for improvement which benefited the whole audience. They epitomised the ethos of joint meetings which is to experience different styles of chairing, speaking and evaluating. We want members to develop their own style rather than slip into a ‘club’ style.

Many thanks to all our guests for their convivial company and invaluable contributions to the evening.

Chaucer President’s dinner has been booked for Friday 26th May at the Kent and Canterbury Club with an eminent speaker – tickets £30 – details from Carol.

Kent Area competitions are being held on Sunday 19th February – good luck to the Chaucer competitors –  be inspired that last year 2 of our members reached the National finals and Stewart is now the National topics champion. Contact Adrian for further details.

Our next meeting is on Monday 20th February – there are still spaces available on the programme.
