Kent Area AGM and Competition 07/02/16

On Sunday Chaucer members made their merry way to Maidstone for the Kent Area competition. The motley crew comprised of Val, Stew, Katy, Julian, Carol, Adrian and Suzanne.

The big news from the AGM is Suzanne has become the Kent Area President, with Julian taking on the Kent Area Vice President’s position and Adrian to be the Kent Area Secretary.  Congratulations to all in their new roles.

In the three Area competitions the team did Chaucer proud. First up were Stewart and Julian in the Topics Competition. This year’s title was ‘Stars’ which prompted a plethora of responses, from musings on the universe to Simply Red.

Next came Suzanne and Adrian in the Evaluation Competition. West Kent’s Chris Frost delivered the target speech on ‘Pain’ and our intrepid duo were then judged on their ability to provide a sound and constructive assessment of the presentation.

The final competition was the prepared Speech. Here Stewart and Katy stepped up to the podium to deliver their speeches, entitled ‘The Goldfinch’ and ‘The Children’s Hotel’ respectively. A big thank you to Katy for agreeing to take part at short notice.

For all three competitions, Carol was the Chaucer judge.

Going through to represent Kent at the District competitions on March 20th are Stewart for topics and Suzanne for Evaluation.
